Film Shoot

A Different Light

Once upon a time in a Galaxy far far away … we gelled lots and lots of video lights transforming the caves here in the Riviera Maya into something truely out of this world. Here we take a journey through roots, under air domes and over haloclines. Needless to say this was extremely fun to shoot!

Big thank you to everyone involved and Makito Japanese and Thai restaurant in Puerto Aventuras and Zero Gravity Dive Center Mexico for your support with equipment.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”

Marking 3 years of collaboration with Bassline Drift and to many more years of teamwork with this group of people! Over 3 hours of placing light, waiting, modeling and all round having fun being creative. Big thanks to Marty O’ Farrell for the use of some BIG Big Blue lights/HID’s and your support with my work.

Inbetween some exciting projects with more exciting people in the next months look out for more of these compilations capturing some places around in a different light 🙂

NEW GH5S!! First Test

Just a smidge over the moon with my new Panasonic GH5 S camera and Nauticam housing! 😍 We put it through it’s paces today pushing its ISO limits with a trial in a large cavern on Chinese Garden line in Cenote Tajma-Ha. It soars past my old GH4 in leaps and bounds in regards to low light … really excited to see what more it can do in the many ideas that are flowing already!

Dry Caving

Puerto Aventuras Dry Caving and flooded cave exploration

Last day of exploring in this system. We spent from 9am to 4:30pm under ground surfacing only briefly to change entrance. All in all the cave was small and crawly which was fun! My legs and arms are black and blue but it was totally worth it. There were some chest high sumps which we got to wade through and in to survey and see if they went (and also cool down). There were lots of laughs between a steady flow of jokes and Juans ‘cave spiders’. The past few days have been an amazing and valuable experience and i’m really looking forward to more dry caving in the not too distant future!

Puerto Aventuras Dry Caving and Survey

Day two of dry caving with some cave exploration. Yesterday there was a lot of ground to cover and so we were split into smaller groups. Mauro and I took a look at a hole in the jungle floor that opened up into a cavern. We attached a ladder and climbed around 10m down. There were two large chambers separated by a collapse in the middle and one boasted a promising looking sump which Mauro scouted out on breath hold. I wriggled in and out of some smaller restrictions in the dry cave that had some airflow but were close out. It’s such an amazing feeling to enter a place no one has seen before …

Today I had the opportunity to get to go dry caving for the first time in Mexico. I shadowed a very experienced and fun group of dry cavers consisting of Peter Sprouse, Juan Laden, Joaquin Rivera, Carol Vesely and Scott Linn while they surveyed and checked out some sumps. Mauro Bordignon and David Dusekexplored some sumps already known to the group.

The cave is beautifully decorated and humbling … I enjoyed it so much I’m joining again tomorrow 😊

Cave Diving Progression

Back to open water to iron out some confidence and comfort issues I had when loaded to the max with stages and towing a DPV. I found it uncomfortable to manoeuvre and that I was becoming a bit task loaded and frustrated. After a few hours practising in Cenote car wash with my very patient and supportive instructor I feel more happy and confident I can handle the gear I may need to in a cave environment and going back to one stage feels like a dream! Still a while to go … but getting there
