OX Bel Ha

What better way to make an exciting announcement than with an exciting video to match! Here is a compilation from our shoot in Ox Bel Ha last week.

I would like to take the opportunity to tell you all about an exciting next step. I have recently applied for and received a position as in house camera AC/diver with Silverback Films in Bristol. The team have an impressive background in producing Natural History TV series over the years. Some of their credentials include Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet to name but a few, and more recently ‘The hunt’ on Netflix voiced by Sir David Attenborough with another series ‘Our Planet’ in pursuit this April. Over the next years I will be learning from and working alongside some of the most prolific ‘Blue-Chip’ Natural history camera operators in the world. This will of course mean leaving Mexico and going to live in Bristol by April and so sadly I will be saying good bye to the caves for now and would like to extend a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me thus far and to those who provided the ‘glowing references’ which helped me attain the position and a significant move forward with my career.

Time to tell an underwater story

It’s time to get creative again! Today we laser cut all the stencils and gobos I plan to use in my next shoot. SO grateful to have access to awesome people and equipment that can translate my imagination into reality. Alina and I tested out the shapes and sizes we would need and light gels a few weeks ago. Today Richi from Atomic Weightput the designs through auto cad and into the laser machine. I have an exciting week to look forward to with some CCR starting tomorrow and over the next weeks. Looking forward to catching up with Manolo Mendieta (check out his work https://www.spuncofilms.com) for some RED Digital Cinema action with Davide Felicetti over the weekend, somewhere in between all that I will be taking this creative lighting concept into the water ASAP.

OWUSS Rolex Scholarship Lighting Workshop

Last month I had the pleasure to run a lighting workshop for The OWUSS North American Rolex Scholar Yann HF with his mentor Jon KierenKIEREN Technical through Underworld Tulum.
In the video I aim to walk you through the preparation of creating a scene in an aesthetic way. Yann worked hard thinking about light placement whilst dealing with the buoyancy changes involved with picking up and placing lights. The video then transitions into Jon and Yann working as a dive team as they would in a real shoot while the camera is rolling. They have to think about positioning, choosing the correct path to run a line through the set up and using face lights. I think we can all agree they did an excellent job at light placement and modeling, the cavern looks stunning. Best of luck Yann and very happy to have introduced you to my area of work!

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”

Marking 3 years of collaboration with Bassline Drift and to many more years of teamwork with this group of people! Over 3 hours of placing light, waiting, modeling and all round having fun being creative. Big thanks to Marty O’ Farrell for the use of some BIG Big Blue lights/HID’s and your support with my work.

Inbetween some exciting projects with more exciting people in the next months look out for more of these compilations capturing some places around in a different light 🙂

NEW GH5S!! First Test

Just a smidge over the moon with my new Panasonic GH5 S camera and Nauticam housing! 😍 We put it through it’s paces today pushing its ISO limits with a trial in a large cavern on Chinese Garden line in Cenote Tajma-Ha. It soars past my old GH4 in leaps and bounds in regards to low light … really excited to see what more it can do in the many ideas that are flowing already!
